Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, I left the States for the first time late in life at 20, for a study abroad in Toulouse France. Having never taken a bite out of the world, I got real hungry. My path soon saw me living in Delhi, India learning Hindi and volunteering with street children. But this unquenchable girl could not get enough of learning the depths of a culture and their language. So for the next several years, I called London my home, doing business development for a design firm in Soho. But the routine of the corporate world dulled my wings, where writing speeches for Ambassadors and Politicians in San Francisco and working in dive whiskey bars did not. I thought I was done with the language game, but after a solo 6 month trip around South America to brush up on my Spanish, I ended up falling in love with the land of Brazil. I decided I needed to live there, so ran home to pack and returned immediately to begin my tropical chapter.

I had reached a point in my life, where I was craving a deeper experience than just getting on a plane. Although I was not yet ready to stop regularly experiencing other cultures, I had made travel my lifestyle for 15 years. Bromelia Rio was born out of a month I spent on a solo trip to Brazil. For the first time, I found a country that lived from its soul. I was made to feel a part of the culture even before I got off the plane. I had to share this feeling with the world. As this would be the 4th time I moved the country in my adult life, starting a new chapter was not the challenge.

But this beautiful tropical story was not necessarily a smooth one! Building a new business on a different continent, without knowing anybody nor speaking the language was never meant to be easy. Neither was learning how to interpret and manage local practices yet still offer a high quality product. However, if there is one thing I never doubt, it is my soul. And it was not ever going to give up, despite what my rational mind said.

I decided to translate my understanding of an experienced traveler’s needs and couple it with my adoration of Brazil into a business. I began Bromelia Rio by focusing on what I find to be the 4 elements of an ideal trip: authenticity, experience, comfort, and ease. What started as a girl lying in bed, researching on her computer, soon became a reality.

Today there is a flow to the rhythm of the madness. Bromelia has been featured in numerous international publications, including Forbes, Esquire and KLM in-flight magazine, as their preferred Cultural Specialist & Travel Concierge. The story is also no longer about a one-woman show, but now includes a Bromelia extended family of local experts helping you navigate Brazil’s various Landscapes.

We are here to put soul in your trip. Welcome home to Brazil.

Bromelia Rio Travel wants you to experience the real Brazil, in the way that suits you. The Brazil Travel Concierge was founded by a California native who has been traveling and living abroad for 15 years. Lauren created what a world traveler looks for:

  • Someone to provide access to the soul of local culture
  • Someone to count on
  • Someone who speaks both the local language and your own
  • Someone to arrange the details that make a trip stressful
  • Someone to call when you need a great dinner recommendation or the perfect gift for mom
  • Someone to curate that exotic trip that leaves one ‘feeling alive’

Bromelia Rio gives you the information so you can explore, but we do not let you get lost. We go to Underground Samba parties, have drinks in rustic neighborhoods, explore tropical beaches, make friends with Brazilians, shop at local designers, dine at the city’s best restaurants and indulge in traditional healing. Bromelia Rio is a space to share, explore, mend, relax and be inspired.

Welcome home to Brazil.
