Brazilian Traditional Capoeira Class

Brazilian Traditional Capoeira Class

“Play” Capoeira with a Rio local on the banks of the Lagoon. At our Brazilian traditional Capoeira class, you will learn the basics of this Brazilian martial arts that combines dance, acrobatics and music. Originally developed in the 16th century, Capoeira is a system of physical discipline and movement originating among Brazilian slaves. This art form began as a way to secretly practice fighting and keep in top physical shape without anyone the wiser. Because it looks like dance, it actually was a strategic form of martial arts. Capoeira has since been granted a special protected status as “intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO. Nowadays, Capoeira is performed as a celebration. Study with a local expert alongside the iconic lake underneath the shadow of Christ the Redeemer and be a part of traditional Northern Brazilian Heritage.
